Interviews allow our selection committee to learn more about you and give you a chance to learn more about Teach For America.
Interviews are offered by invitation only and are scheduled according to the application deadline at which you choose to apply (view a complete timeline). Our process is selective at each stage, and not all applicants are invited to an interview.
Our admissions process includes two types of interviews, a phone interview and a final interview.
| Phone interview | Phone interviews allow our selection committee to learn more about you before deciding whether to invite you to a final interview. During this 30-minute conversation with a Teach For America representative, you will share more about your past experiences and your interest in Teach For America. |
|---|---|
| Final interview | The final interview allows you to demonstrate your strengths in a variety of contexts. In this daylong, in-person interview, selected applicants participate in activities including a 5-minute sample teaching lesson, group discussion, problem solving activity, and personal interview. |
Final interviews are required for admission to Teach For America. In most cases, a phone interview is also required. Beginning January 2008, some applicants may be invited directly to a final interview without attending a phone interview. This happens when a candidate's application provides us with enough information to determine a high likelihood of reaching the finalist round. This does not mean that applicants invited directly to a final interview will be admitted at higher rates than those invited to interview on the phone first; the application is an important, but by no means fully definitive, element of our admissions process. The final interview will present all invited applicants an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and interests throughout a challenging day of activities and interviews.
